Crown Lengthening

Sometimes you have too much of a good thing. Occasionally, gum tissue has to be removed with a Crown Lengthening procedure to improve a smile, eliminate a “gummy” smile, or allow teeth to have a normal length.

Crown Lengthening is also necessary when tooth decay, or a tooth fracture, goes under the gum tissue. Just enough gum tissue is removed to give the restorative dentist access to treat the tooth decay or tooth fracture - typically with a crown or porcelain laminate veneer.
