Gingivitis

Gingivitis is the first stage of periodontal disease. It is inflammation of the gum tissue created by bacterial plaque on the teeth. The bacterial plaque buildup on the teeth is typically from inadequate or improper oral hygiene and not seeing the dentist or the dental hygienist on a timely basis. Gingivitis is reversible if treated before it compromises the bone structure supporting the teeth. Left untreated, Gingivitis will often advance into Periodontitis.
